The bathing suit image is divided by 16 digital contour lines into 16 spans corresponding to different shades of grey. These contour lines make visible the outline of the contrasting shades and they offer a general idea of the drawing. However, it is impossible to tell two shades from one another when they correspond to similar colours. We are looking at lines interlacing without starting or stopping anywhere, or rather at a surface with holes and mounds. The topography obtained when drawing this outline manually is useless without the original picture.
